Oracle Hybrid Partitioned Tables in Real Systems

Most large Oracle environments eventually hit the same wall.

The database keeps growing, storage costs climb every quarter, backup windows become unpredictable, and suddenly DBAs are spending more time managing historical data than supporting the actual application workload.

Usually the first reaction is archive-and-delete.

Then the reporting team complains because last year's data disappeared.

Oracle 26ai Data Pump Format Change Explained

Most DBAs never think about the internal structure of a Data Pump dump file until something breaks.

The export finishes successfully. The dump file exists. Object storage upload completes. Then suddenly an import job fails halfway through a cloud migration because the dump file metadata cannot be interpreted properly by the target workflow. Or worse, a multi-terabyte export streaming directly into cloud storage stalls because the metadata handling does not behave well with object-based writes.

That is exactly the kind of operational problem Oracle quietly addressed in Oracle AI Database 26ai.

Reducing RPO and Managing Recovery Time for Oracle Bigfile Tablespaces

Managing Oracle Bigfile Tablespaces can seem daunting when it comes to backup and recovery. With a single datafile potentially exceeding hundreds of terabytes, restoring after corruption or failure may appear time-consuming. However, modern Oracle features like RMAN incremental backups, block change tracking, ASM striping, and flashback technologies allow DBAs to reduce both Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) efficiently.

Snapshot Standby in OCI RAC: When Listener Registration Breaks Quietly

It started like a routine DR testing request.

Application team wanted a safe environment on the standby side to run validations without impacting primary. The standby database was part of a 2-node Oracle RAC setup running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Database Base Service. By default, the standby was in mount mode, so the usual debate began - switchover or snapshot standby.

Switchover was immediately ruled out. Too heavy for a simple test cycle, too risky for timing constraints. Snapshot standby looked like the obvious choice.

Why Oracle Execution Plans Suddenly Change

A query that normally runs in under a second suddenly starts taking 20 seconds after midnight maintenance. CPU spikes. Application teams report slowness. Storage looks healthy. Nothing obvious changed in the SQL itself.

In many Oracle production incidents, the real culprit is not the query. It is the execution plan.

Oracle's optimizer constantly evaluates how SQL should execute based on statistics, metadata, bind values, memory conditions, and optimizer behaviour. The same SQL can behave very differently depending on what Oracle believes is the cheapest execution path at parse time.

Oracle Cursors and the Hidden Cost of Parsing

Some Oracle performance problems announce themselves loudly with blocking sessions, failed jobs, or storage alerts.

Cursor-related issues usually do the opposite.

The database slowly becomes inconsistent. CPU rises during peak hours. Application response time fluctuates. AWR reports start showing library cache waits and excessive parsing activity even though the SQL itself does not look particularly heavy.

Oracle Data Guard Switchover Got Stuck? What Actually Saves You

Most Oracle DBAs trust switchover operations right until the day one hangs halfway through during a maintenance window.

Everything looks clean before the role transition. Transport lag is zero. Apply lag is zero. Broker shows SUCCESS. Then suddenly the switchover freezes, sessions pile up, applications start timing out, and everyone on the bridge asks the same question:

"Why is Data Guard stuck?"

RAC Patching Prerequisites Most DBAs Ignore

Most RAC patching failures do not happen because somebody forgot the actual patching command.

They happen because the environment was already unhealthy before patching even started.

A CRS resource was unstable for weeks. ASM diskgroup usage was already close to critical. One node had intermittent packet loss. OPatch inventory was inconsistent. Backup validation had never been tested. Somebody skipped conflict analysis because "last quarter's patch worked fine."

Then patch night arrives.

What should have been a rolling maintenance activity suddenly turns into a bridge call involving storage, Linux, network, middleware, and management asking why one RAC node refuses to rejoin the cluster.
